Today, the kids participated in an activity that was brought from my childhood. It was offered by Grace Hsiang who did the activity at the Barn Day Camp as a camper. The activity is called “Worm Grunting.” When the staff asked the best spots, I told them near the kybos since we always did it by our outhouse. Once the announcement happened, several folks had skeptical looks. The campers proved them wrong. They were able to get 11 worms which they then released into the compost since we were not swimming. Below is a a video from NPR on work gruntign. This is actually on my land in Sopchoppy, Florida. It was such a joy to see the campers and staff enjoy a unique activity from my childhood.
Peace,
Polly
