A summer office staff heard a scratching sound below their desk area. Apparently, a little brown bat was stuck in a box, probably the same bat reported to be flying around the night before. After rehydrating and recovering from shock, our little furry friend took wing and fled into the woods.
As I cycle around the dusty F&W road to visit camps, I see how our goslings have quickly matured to juveniles; our Barn Day Camp campers hiking back from their day of adventure seem a little more sure of their path; sounds of laughter rise from the waterfronts, and in the distance, some neighbor’s dog barks, echoing over the water reminding us we are part of a larger Plymouth community.
Tamarack Farmers dove into their Skillz groups, from siding the Penz cabin to guiding goats from the enclosure they set up. Counselor Apprentices are practicing activities they may use with campers in a week or so. Red Spruce Grovers are making the most of their rest time, working on their inspired creations (carved, embroidered, etc.) or simply reading under the breezy flapping of the community tent. I look forward to quality time at SAM Camp and Flying Cloud over the weekend.
The sun has shone for days now, with gentle and stronger breezes discouraging some of the peskier flies from persisting. As we celebrate Interdependence Day with songs and a skit, I feel the energy of staff and campers overall is warm and peaceful. While I know the days are flying by, there is a timelessness at camp, where each day and moments seem to last, cherished like the friendships and experiences made in this summer of 2019.
