Theresa Serr joins the F&W community with over 30 years of experience directing camps and developing programs for youth, including having worked for YMCA camps and afterschool programs in Florida, Arizona, and Detroit, Michigan, and Campfire Camps in Alaska. In her jobs, she has worked with diverse communities (there were over 90 languages represented by the youth participants of the programs she managed in Anchorage); collaborated with outside partners including local school districts, Native Tribal Councils, and local food banks; developed new programs that empowered youth to reach their full potential; and succeeded in increasing staff retention by creating professional development opportunities and establishing progressive leadership positions while providing positive coaching and mentoring.
While possessing lots of the hard skills needed for directing a large wilderness program, Theresa also conveys a strong understanding of child/youth development and an appreciation for how camp can challenge and encourage growth in campers and staff. Theresa’s motto for herself, adopted from the expectations of staff at First Coast YMCA in Florida, is to “be kind, be passionate, and to serve others.”
Theresa is elated to be joining a camp community that is as robust as Farm & Wilderness. She will be moving with her family to Vermont in April and is excited to meet you at Spring Planting.
