We are wrapping up our final session of the Barn Day Camp. This second-to-last week has been really fun. Today we tried a new afternoon activity: “Catching Flies to Feed to Spiders.” The kids and staff came up with a way to catch the flies by standing in a circle and catching them off of the head of the person in front of them. Once they caught about 20 flies, they found spiders and threw them into the webs. Low and behold, down came the spider and the group got to see the spider spin the fly up in his web. Earlier in the week, a group came across a dead chicken in the compost at one of the other camps. It inspired an impromptu lesson on natural cycles and how dead animals can fertilize the earth. It’s never a dull moment at the BDC!
Peace,
Polly
