This week most Tamarack Farmers are out on trips! Our teens are spending these summer days hiking in the Green Mountains or canoeing in the Adirondacks of New York. Before they left I asked the group why they think we go out on wilderness trips. The answers they had were great:
Because people grow & gain confidence through challenges.
We get to make connections with a small group of people and connect to nature.
Business Insider recently published an interesting article to support their ideas: 12 science-backed reasons to spend more time outdoors.
While most TFers are out enjoying wild spaces, our Counselor Apprentices (CA’s) are diving into their first week of work with children at our other camps. During the first two weeks of camp, the CA’s completed the same training required of our summer staff. CA’s have learned about child development, boundaries, experiential education, emergency action plan, risk management, inclusivity and equity, counseling approach and scenarios, and more. They have also been certified in belaying, Red Cross Lifeguard, and CPR. This week they were ready to create positive experiences at Indian Brook, Timberlake, and Barn Day Camp. We look forward to hearing how their first week goes!
