The first week at camp has been full of adventures and heat! Our first few days at camp were spent making spoons, working on ax and knife safety skills and enjoying some of the activity areas offered at Indian Brook (including the waterfront)! Our big hike out to the Red Spruce Grove site was slow going in the heat, but we made it to Plymouth where the campers relaxed in the shade and picnicked with sandwiches and fruit. Despite the intense heat, campers were in high spirits and even protested a little when we let them know we were shuttling them the rest of the way for safety sake.
The last few days at the Grove have been packed with new skills and old favorites. Campers got oriented to the site and chores, learned about how to collect dry firewood in any weather, continued to perfect their spoons, and have been getting creative with the daily menu to accommodate for these hot days when cooking over a fire is just out of the question. We have also already been engaging with our Ninevah camp neighbors, today some Flying Cloud neighbors visited our site and practiced archery! The nearby SAM Camp waterfront has been a respite from the heat and an afternoon destination these past two days. We will continue to sing and laugh through this sweltering wave with some singing, hanging out at the nearby pond.
