Getting Ready for Camp

We encourage kids to be explorers at camp which often means getting dirty and wearing practical clothes.  That 5k Fun Run Shirt?  Perfect!!  Here are a few more Packing Tips & Details that families have found useful.  Please call the main office or email me if you have questions.

Here is some Backpacks, Boots & other Footwear information that families have found useful to know as you pack for an Timberlake Summer of ADVENTURE! There are various items like backpacking equipment that we lend to campers, so consider contacting us before going out and buying something new.

To assist us in a lice-free summer please check your camper regularly in the weeks before camp and treat if necessary. If lice or nits are found we will take steps to have your child treated before entering the cabin area.

Regarding homesickness, this New York Times blog is a great resource.  The good news is there is a lot you can do to prepare and prevent homesickness and we will be there to support your camper the entire time.  For those who like to read more of the research, there is a more extensive and clinical pediatrics article.

Camp Communications

As I mentioned above, I’d love to check in before the campers arrive.  Once campers are here I step back and let our fantastic Lodge Directors take point and become your primary contact.   We’ll do a longer introduction soon, but for the moment know they are:

– Frankie Thatcher

As we are unplugged during the summer (except for checking and answering messages) we respond within 24 hours.  If there is an urgent matter you may call the paging service: 888.622.3276 and page Tulio Browning.

Campers write home every 5-7 days but mail is slow.  Contact your Lodge Director if you are in need of reassurance – we are here for you!  We’ll upload cabin photos and a few others so you can see your child but there won’t be a regular stream of images uploading because we are focused on camp.  We will share news of camp through the TL BLOG every week.

Please do not send any food to campers, it ‘s not allowed as it encourages pests to visit the cabin.

Preparing You & Your Family

One part of our program is teaching about Inclusivity and Equity, as well as the value of difference.  Our staff are trained to facilitate meaningful, age-appropriate conversations on social justice; nurturing their self and community identity, promoting their comfort in socializing with people of different backgrounds, fostering critical thought about bias, and cultivating their ability to stand up in the face of bias.

Camp Gets Ready For YOU

On June 9th the first of our over sixty staff arrived for almost three weeks of preparations and training.  All of it so that TL 2018 is a summer everyone will look back on and know that together we achieved the incredible.
