First BDC Session Wrapping Up! - Farm & Wilderness

Written by Pam Podger | July 06, 2016

Wow! What an exciting first session! I just looked at the pictures on the website. I kept thinking how lucky I am to direct this camp. Some would look at the pictures and think these must be from days that aren’t part of the regular schedule. I mean, who has afternoon activities that involve shaving cream covered kids, digging holes and filling them back in, intense mustache growth, bottle rocket launcher, extreme fairy house building, and many others. Well we at the BDC do these type of activities every day.

The days have been hot which makes our waterfront very popular. Our new waterfront head, Sigrid, is really enjoying this beautiful weather. Lessons are going well, along with many campers enjoying free time at the waterfront in the afternoon.

Topsy-Turvy Tuesday was a huge hit. The activities included Waterfront Fun, counselor camper silly soccer, Sponge/Hula Hoop painting, and, of course, a giant waterslide. We retired the waterslide and ordered a new one because you can only duck-tape so many holes. This one will be clear instead of black. Kind of like the see through kayaks, but Barn Day Camp style.

The campers have discovered, that our pig Magnolia will roll over if you scratch her belly. She has gotten really big and loves attention. She will often come running when called and had a lovely spa afternoon the other day – complete with a buttermilk bath and a garland of flowers (which she ate). The campers reported that she felt like soft velvet afterwards.

Our BDC community is looking for many more fun times ahead, including this week’s overnight trips. Please refer to the previous blog for a link to our summer calendar.

Peace,

Polly
