Greetings Flying Cloud Blog Readers!
Our overnight trips have returned to the clearing and our little village in the woods is whole again. I’ve always notice that trips have a way of coming at just the right time. After a little over a week into a session,
Just before trips these more difficult relationships can come up in interesting ways and, more often than not, a little bit of time and space can go a long way to shed light on a new perspective. We have an opportunity to practice the skills we will need throughout our life for working with other people, understanding new perspectives, and developing a clear sense of how we would like to contribute to the health of our own communities.
The trips this session were great successes. Here’s a quick list of all the adventures from last week:
Raquette River – a classic canoe exploration of a gorgeous river in the Adirondacks of Northern New York.
Umbagog Lake – another paddling trip. Folks got to explore Lake Umbagog and the Androscoggin River in Maine.
PKS-LRP – Pico, Killington, Shrewsbury to Little Rock Pond. A hearty hike across the areas tallest peaks then down into Clarendon Gorge and White Rocks National Forest.
Survival – a Flying Cloud Classic skill trip. Friction fire, shelter building, water purification, wild edibles, and so much more.
Uber Scouts – Our oldest campers, silent movement, camouflage, and nighttime adventure all in one. Add a little bit of trickster energy mixed up with kindness, a recipe for greatness.
If you know someone at camp this summer don’t forget to ask them what trip they went on. Trips are after all without fail, where some of the best stories of the summer come from. What else would you expect from an adventure?
Be well and much love,
— FF
