First Round of Names - Farm & Wilderness

Written by Pam Podger | July 12, 2015

Greetings Flying Cloud Community:

I’ve made it back out of the woods and back to the land of connectivity to fill you in on the events of the past week or so. Things have certainly been busy. Activities were a blast. Campers have been making bow drill kits, carving spoons, crafting bows, making flutes, learning wild edibles, playing games and so much more.

Most importantly, I am excited to inform you that we have given out the first ten Flying Cloud Names of Summer 2015. For those of you that don’t know much about the names I just want to take a quick second to talk about the idea. Every camper and staff member of Flying Cloud, in their first summer, goes out on a one-day vigil. They sit in silence and reflect on their past, present, and future. When they return we hold a celebration in their honor.

A Flying Cloud Name is given to represent the greatest qualities of the individual; the names are built from the great pool of metaphors that nature provides us. The name is meant to represent who we are today and also to challenge us to be more tomorrow. As the summer goes on, I’ll keep sharing insights about why we give Flying Cloud Names and what they mean to those who wear them. For now though, please join me in welcoming these newly Named Brothers into the fold:

Windborne Wren

Oak Speaks

 Heart & Sky

Oaken Ember

Gosling’s Grove

Canyon’s Call

Fox Reads the Stars

Sings the Sparrow

And our two staff members:

Kelan Nee as Birch & Flame

Zev Alexander as Guardian’s Song

Until next week, may you find a way to the woods.
