Our staff of 66 talented teammates have been training tirelessly for the arrival of campers and we are delighted that they are finally here! Our staff – ranging in age from 18 to 36 and coming to Vermont from as far away as Brazil and Washington State, arrived at F&W three weeks ago to build a safe and adventure-filled home for the young people of Indian Brook. We’ve settled in and feel well trained; we’ve played out “homesick camper” scenarios; we reviewed the Emergency Action Plan; we practiced our chores, wrote our lesson plans and set up our tents.
As 1 p.m. approached on Opening Day, counselors both new and returning stood in their quiet cabins and contemplated the arrival of so much spirit and energy. We’ve eagerly traded that empty silence for giggles and shouts and many, many camp songs at circle times and meals. Even the din of the downpour on the first evening couldn’t drown out our singing!
