So much magic…so little time!
Anyone that’s ever been to camp will understand that we work a bit of magic with the space-time continuum. We pack so much life into the long daylight hours of summer (and sometimes even fit a little more in after dark) that each day seems to stretch on for years. Yet once the season comes to an end, as the days get shorter and the sun lies low over Woodward Reservoir, we find ourselves thinking back to the very first day with campers and wondering how it all passed by so fast. Just in the past seven days we’ve managed to fit in almost a lifetime’s worth of activities.
Just today our Girls Wilderness and senior lodge trips returned from their adventures.
First and Big Lodge experienced a Dino Night filled with creative new dinosaur names and outfits.
Heritage Day included an afternoon of learning from people in our community about their own cultures.
We had a record harvest: In 20 minutes, five people (four apprentices) picked nine pounds of green beans from 4-40 foot rows.
Already, we have made over 800 coneggburts in preparation to crash them over a friends head at FAIR!
-On cabin overnight trips, everyone hikes somewhere and sleeps in a shelter.
-Trips are scattered by lodge.
-Some kybos have stalls.
-Silent meeting is 15 minutes every morning and 45 minutes on Sundays.
-We talk about world/our problems.
-We go to FC ‘Namings’ based on who is at camp when they happen.
-The five bell signifies an emergency and a seven bell indicates a practice.
-Chores in the kitchen are divided by lodge.
-Pranks are done, but have to be nice.
-Sunday is sleep in, bagel bar, and ice cream day.
-Just so ya’ll know I helped build Stargrove Willow. And just so ya’ll know it’s named after Marni, the previous nurse. Just so ya’ll know I was responsible for the glitter in TF’s hand sanitizer.
-IB is a chill camp where you can say anything and it will be heard. We have themes in the afternoons. Things have changed, but are still great!
Although the summer is flying by, we still have a few days left to pack it all in! We are getting ready for harvest afternoon and chicken harvest to contribute to our Banquet dinner. We hope to make some everlasting memories here at Indian Brook!
See you at Fair!
