The beginning of session two was met with a beautiful day that matched the excited and nervous faces of campers who were joining our community. Full season campers helped welcome newcomers and settle them into the cabins they would be calling home for the next couple of weeks.
Cabin trip pack out
Monday was a day of pack out as cabins prepared for their two-night and three-day trips. The groups planned their menus, completed tippy tests, packed their personal bags, and performed group-bonding challenges to ready themselves for the hiking and paddling (as well as more bonding), that lay in front of them. They learned how to set up their tents, and light stoves, as well as about all the different pieces of group gear that were necessary for their trip.
Magical Mystery Tour
On the second night of the session, campers broke into small groups and completed a scavenger hunt that doubled as a way to orient them to different locations around camp. The theme of the evening was not-so-super-heroes. The counselor were cast as superheroes with less than impressive powers, such as the ability to slightly moisten things, or the ability to fly but only at the height and speed of a chairlift. Groups had to solve the mystery of the missing lifeguard tubes that had been stolen by the not-so-super-villain, Safety Violator, who had hidden them away and was guarding them under the porch. Through heroic teamwork and the chanting of “Rinse is not a job,” the campers were able to retrieve the tubes and return SAM camp to a state of safety (as well as learning all about camp)!
We’re eager to see them back in camp after their trips and hear about their adventures. Stay tuned!
