During this past session, IB campers and staff helped to rebuild the cob oven up in the apple orchard. We were grateful to have Green Mountain Flour owner, Daniella and Zach, assist campers in the creation of what looks now like a monster in the apple orchard field!
This earth oven was created with 350 lbs. of clay, half a ton of sand, lots of love, almost one bale of straw, water, and about 60 fire bricks. We will be lighting small fires in it all week to start heating it up as we prepare for our pizza parties.
Campers learned to piece it together by mixing clay, building a sand mold, and applying the clay and cob layers. We are now dreaming about harvesting pesto and basil for our next pizza party in the orchard!
