I am writing again to share news on the progress of the Long Trail Questers and the Classic Questers!
I resupplied the Long Trail Questers at Clarendon Gorge on Wednesday July 9th, delivering lots of food, clean clothes, as well as a birthday cake for one lucky Quester! I wasn’t going on the trail to relieve Matt for his day off. Instead Miles, our Staff Advocate here at SAM Camp, was lucky enough to hike with them across Killington and Pico Peaks. When I caught up with them again on Route 4 on Friday I heard all about incredible sunsets and views from the tops of these fabulous mountains.
On Saturday evening, the Long Trail Questers had another visitor, Pieter Bohen, F&W’s President hiked out. along with his daughter, Spruce, to visit his daughter, Teale, and the rest of the Questers at David Logan Shelter. They shared some delicious strawberries and got to hear more about the progress of the trip. While the Questers have been handling the hiking very well, the mileage is starting to increase at this point in the trip, with more difficult peaks ahead. At this point they have completed 131 miles of their 277 total to complete the Long Trail!
On this upcoming Friday, the 18th of July, we will have Visiting Day, which is an opportunity for friends and family of the Long Trail Questers to visit them on Trail. We will be meeting them at the Appalachian Gap on Route 17 at noon. We will share food, hear stories and then wish them good luck as they embark on the second half of their trip! More information will be forthcoming in an email.
As for the Classic Questers, I will be picking them up today in New Hampshire, fresh from their summiting of Mount Washington, and bringing them to Tiny Pond Shelter, near SAM Camp where they will perform a days worth of service on Ninevah Foundation property. I can’t wait to hear all about their hike and to pass on the stories to you! Keep checking in!
