The Harvest - Farm & Wilderness

Written by Amy Bowen | July 09, 2014

On Tuesdays and Fridays, the TF farm is the center of bustling activity as our farmers coordinate the harvest. Not only do your campers harvest a variety of veggies from our garden, but they also process, weigh, and box up veggies from all the farms here at F&W.   This week, campers harvested kale, lettuce, peas, strawberries, chives, and broccoli (among other things).

While I bopped around to the different groups taking photos of the harvest this morning, I enjoyed hearing the different conversations among the campers. Some were playing word games, others were engaged in deep conversations about life, pressures and relationships.  I take so much pride in the work that our campers do here. Not only do they help at the farm and with a new cabin construction, but they are having the hard conversations that inevitably arise when one lives in a close community. Not only are they gaining competencies in carpentry and animal care, but they are finding a voice. Many are stepping up as leaders, and they may not be perfect at first, but this is a great place to learn by trying with support from those around them.
