The Questing has begun! As our two Quester groups have set off on their respective trips, let me take this opportunity to update you on their progress. First, my name is Emily and I am the Questers Coordinator this summer. I have previously worked as the Trips Coordinator at Indian Brook and could not be more excited to be working with these amazing Questers and Quester leaders.
As campers arrived on Wednesday – in the rain – they began their journey, learning names and going over trip itineraries. Both groups – the Long Trail Questers and Adirondack Questers – spent time creating a group contract. This is an agreement and discussion of the kind of community they want to be and the culture they want their trips to have, including respect, positivity, and honesty. Other preparations included doing lots of food pack out, with endless bags of granola and GORP (Good Old Raisins and Peanuts) on Friday, and then ending our hot day with a swim in beautiful Lake Ninevah.
On Saturday, June 28th the Questers set off. The Long Trail Questers, led by counselors Matt and Devin, are a group of campers familiar with Farm & Wilderness. They are eager to culminate their years here with a summer-long trip. As they drove down to Massachusetts to set off, they were full of a buzzing energy and excitement.
The Classic Questers, who run through the first session of the summer with another session of follow, are led by Fallon and Ethan. Many of these campers are new to Farm & Wilderness and are challenging themselves with this great adventure through the lakes of Northern Maine, hiking and climbing in the White Mountains of New Hampshire and finishing with a service project here at Farm & Wilderness. As I drove them up to Maine on Saturday I could feel their drive to begin.
I will be checking in with both the Questers groups throughout the summer, to resupply them with food, mail and clean laundry. I will be updating this blog regularly with stories from the trail and pictures of their accomplishments. Please stay tuned!
