Someday we will ... - Farm & Wilderness

This was a very special week at Indian Brook camp! We celebrated one of our most favorite holidays, “Someday”! On this day, campers woke up in their cabins to find that their counselors were missing, and a full bagel breakfast had been left for them in a box outside!  We had fun observing, from afar, how the different cabins reacted to having their counselors missing.  While there was the initial excitement at realizing they were unsupervised, the campers soon realized that their lack of counselors gave them greater responsibility.  Some cabins put off this realization longer than others – enjoying the novelty of waking up by themselves – but other cabins immediately started doling out bagels and decoding their scavenger hunt clues.  As counselors, we felt privileged to watch our campers step into a leadership role and organize their cabin’s breakfast and search for their counselors.  After searching high-and-low, campers finally found their counselors hiding up in our Adventure Course.

The campers were greeted by counselors and staff with a lively rendition of the Bohemian Rhapsody. This was the perfect way to kick off a whimsical day. Our morning activities included bubble baths in the bed of our pickup truck, jazzercising to some favorite tunes, tie dying, and climbing our rock wall to reach candy at the top!

A special perk on Someday was the pre-recorded music we jammed’ out to instead of making our own musical, as we typically do at camp. One of camp’s favorite treats on Someday was the food that our wonderful cooks made. For lunch, we all became giants and ate people-sized food! Miniature hamburgers and hotdogs (and their veg friendly alternatives), baby corn, and veggies were so delicious and fun-sized!

Our afternoon activities were in keeping with the energy of the day and included dying our hair with Jell-o, covering our bodies with chocolate pudding, and taking showers in our Hobart dish sanitizing room. At dinner time, we shrank back down to human-size, and ate giant sized food. It was breakfast for dinner, giant sized pancakes, bacon, and fried eggs!

We ended the day with Spy Night, a favorite all camp game. A handful of camper “spies” were on a mission to get their secret hidden messages up to the Main Lodge while the rest of camp went on a hunt to catch the spies. With a clue to the secret message hidden on them, some of the spies managed to get to the lodge without being discovered! It was quite the exhilarating and satisfying game, the perfect end to one very magical day at Indian Brook.
