The past few days have been very eventful ones here at Indian Brook. In addition to welcoming our First and Big Lodgers back from their trips, we also celebrated a highly-anticipated IB holiday: “Someday!”
Each session, we deviate from our routines for a few special days; on Wednesday, campers rejoiced as IB was transformed into a silly, alternate universe for our annual Someday holiday! On this magical day, pudding falls from the sky, we eat green macaroni & cheese, and strange costumes abound. Even from the other side of Woodward Reservoir, we got reports that hearty giggles from IB could be heard far and wide!
Immediately following their whimsical afternoon on Someday, Senior Lodge campers gathered their water bottles and quick-dry layers, preparing for Thursday morning when they headed out on trips. This half, we have 52 Senior Lodge campers scattered through New England as some traverse the White Mountains, others paddle down Maine’s Androscoggin River, and more test their strength and hone their skills while rock climbing in the Adirondacks.
In addition to the absence of Senior Lodge, the IB community shrank further this morning as we bid farewell to our A1 campers. A1ers (First Lodgers, who are first-time IB campers) stay for the first two weeks of our session. As they reunited with their families earlier today, it was wonderful to watch as they showed their parents around a place where they had come to feel at home! Though we’ll miss them at IB, we hope to see them at Fair and back in Plymouth for many future summers.
This week marked the halfway point of the August session, and already it’s amazing to see how close the campers are with each other and how deeply they feel connected to the Indian Brook community. As they clean up after themselves (and each other), as they make “public service” announcements at meals, and as they extend tremendous support to one another, it becomes increasingly evident that they take ownership for this magical place! We look forward to what the next 10 days will bring.
