I’m happy to say we all made it back from trips with all our various pieces still right where they belong. Don’t worry, it wasn’t that hard. This session we sent out our Little Rock Pond hiking trip to tackle a section of the Appalachian Trail between Little Rock Pond and the Clarendon Gorge. Everyone agreed one of the highlights was jumping off the high rocks into the rushing rapids at the gorge. Not to be outdone, ADK Canoe happily paddled down the Raquette River and across Tupper Lake. One highlight they mentioned to me was when the moon rose over Tupper Lake each night and illuminated the valley in sparkling beauty. Apparently they spent the rest of their time cooking and eating…. Not a bad trip! The last trip for this session was the super-secret Über Scout trip, that went on an adventure to an undisclosed location and practiced awareness and invisibility for four days. Highlights from that trip included a S’mores treasure hunt, a couple of gorgeous nights out in the forest and sneaking past someone so nearby that you could reach out and touch them. I’m happy to say that trips were again a great success this session, and that once again we heard campers saying “this was the best trip ever”!
In other news, it’s hard to believe but we’re beginning to talk about that “final time for 2009” for many different events at FC. Those were the last trips, and tonight is the last Naming Ceremony, and we’re almost out of activity periods too! There’s a whole lot to pack into this week, and it’s going to be tough, but I’m happy to say that among all the “lasts” there are going to be some great “firsts” as well and I can’t wait to see how they go. Among those, one of the largest will be the “first Fair” in the new style. Excitement is beginning to build around camp, in part because we’ll start smoking jerky tomorrow and I’m sure it’s going to be delicious! I hope you can come try some this weekend….
