Farm & Wilderness is seeking people who are passionate about social and environmental justice, love working with kids and teens, and are interested in living simply! If this sounds like you, and you’re interested in working for Farm & Wilderness – THANK YOU!

We have seven overnight camps and a day camp, for campers age 4-17 years old, and we hire about 250 summer staff each year, so we understand that it can be confusing figuring out what job/camp is the best for you.  Please follow the steps below for more information about summer positions at Farm & Wilderness summer camps in Vermont.

STEP ONE Which Camp is Right for Me?

Each camp has different camper age/genders and while all our camps are rooted in the values of Quaker philosophy, each has its own unique niche.  Some of the camps have staff age/gender restrictions.

Offers day programming for our youngest campers, which includes swim lessons, arts and crafts, nature and trip skills, building projects and many other great adventures!  Creativity, silliness, and fun drive the programming at the BDC.

Campers: Mixed gender ages 4-10

Staff: Mixed gender age 16+

Note about Staff Schedule:

  • Staff have the option to live onsite or off;
  • Staff 17 years and younger must live off site
  • Day Camp runs Monday – Friday 8:30-4:30

At our most remote camp, programming focuses on community and earth based living skills.  Flying Cloud is completely off the grid; pumping their water, cooking over a friction fire, and living by candlelight.

Staff: Male and gender non-binary age 18+

Campers: Boys and gender non-binary age 11-14

One of our larger camps, IB focuses on simple living, culture of shared work, and social justice in a noncompetitive environment.

All campers go on one overnight camping trip, and campers choose the activity areas they want to sign up for.  Songs, silliness, and creativity abound.

Staff: Female and gender non-binary age 18+

Campers: Girls and gender non-binary age 9-14

Our newest program, Red Spruce Grove, is a small wilderness living camp in VT where girls and non-binary kids ages 11-14, learn to live in a small group setting in deep connection with nature, each other and themselves.  Campers and staff live in a small community practicing earth based living skills including cooking their meals over a fire.

Staff: Female and gender non-binary Age 18+ (21+ preferred)

Campers: Girls and gender non-binary age 11-14

A camp focused on backpacking, canoeing, rock climbing, and service trips.  It is also known for its music and drama (performance skits) which delight the community before our annual Fair celebration, and hosts 2 Contra dances during the summer.

Staff: Mixed gender age 21+

Campers: Mixed gender age 11-14

A program for teens eager for extended wilderness trips that foster leadership, community, and personal growth.  There are 2 Questers programs: 1. Hike the 272-mile-Long Trail or 2. Classic Questers embark on 18 days for a canoe, rock climbing, and backpacking trip.

Staff: Mixed gender age 21+

Campers: Mixed gender age 15-17

Staff mentor teens as they take on leadership in community living, as well as learning about social justice issues and participate in apprenticeships focused on carpentry, organic farming, and counselor training.

Staff: Mixed gender age 22+

Campers: Mixed gender age 15-17

STEP FOUR What are the Living Conditions?

All staff live in RUSTIC conditions which includes 3 sided cabins that do not have electricity.  Farm & Wilderness also uses Composting toilets (what we affectionately call KYBOS) throughout the camps.  Farm & Wilderness strives to provide the best food we can in our kitchens which includes meat and produce from our Organic Farms.  We cater to all dietary restrictions and preferences.

What is the Application Process?

The first step is to fill out an online application. Your application will be sent to the Hiring Director of your selected camp. We hire on a rolling basis with interviews beginning the middle of January.
