Amy Bowen
Tamarack Farm Director
Amy Bowen has spent most of her life in New England exploring and playing on its hills and mountains. She studied English, theology, and Spanish at Gordon College, where she later coached volleyball and basketball for a total of 11 seasons. She led backpacking trips in the Adirondacks  for the La Vida Outdoor Education and Leadership program for nine years where she fell in love with experiential/ adventure-based learning and the growth  that can result from creating safe arenas for people to push themselves. During this time, she received her master's degree in Curriculum Design and Instruction from Northeastern University. She also facilitated discussions on justice issues for a non-profit, Sport in Society. Recently, she lived in Los Angeles and helped design and build a youth program at an urban farm. This experience helped her implement her love of experiential learning and community building along with the powerful component of meaningful work. She loves backpacking, knitting, fly-fishing, reading, back-country skiing, canoeing, playing basketball and volleyball, and spending time with her family (her husband, Sten;  daughter, Seven; and son, Isaiah).
