Financial Aid

Farm & Wilderness has long been committed to making camp affordable for as many children as possible. Camperships (our term for financial aid) provide some assistance to families for whom payment of the full tuition is not possible. These grants supplement the amount paid by families and generally range from 10% to 30% of the total tuition. The campership program is open to people of any race, color, or socioeconomic background. The amount awarded is decided on the basis of need (as documented on the Campership Application) as well as the availability of funds. You may apply for a full summer of camp, but know that in almost every case, assistance will only be offered for a half summer session. Campership applications will not be considered without the $250 deposit.

The Campership Awards Committee is chosen by the Farm & Wilderness Board of Trustees. The Committee is composed of people who have had children at the camps, former staff, and others who believe that Farm & Wilderness is an important experience for children. Due to the volume of applications, it will not be possible to meet all requests for assistance. Please find our forms here for the overnight camps and here for our day camp.

Some things you should know about financial aid:

The Campership application is not an application to Farm & Wilderness Camps. You must fill out the Farm & Wilderness Registration Form in addition to the Campership Application.

Campership Applications should be mailed to our office by January 15th for overnight camps, and June 1st for the Barn Day Camp.

Overnight camp applicant families can expect to hear by mid-February about the Awards Committee’s decision. All tuition paid up to that time is refundable if you decide you need to cancel. No refunds are made after March 1st.

Applicant families for the Barn Day Camp can expect to hear about the Awards Committee’s decision in early June. All tuition paid up to that time is refundable if you decide you need to cancel. No refunds will be made after June 15th.

A child must be enrolled (not on the waiting list) at the time of the Awards Committee meeting in order to be considered for aid.

Campership Applications for returning campers will be reviewed along with counselor letters and the camp director’s report.
